It started with a dream…a vision to develop a faith community that would usher people in to become followers of Christ and a voice of hope to the world.
Before starting New Hope Kapolei, Pastor Glenn Yamaguchi worked in various capacities including a missionary with Campus Crusade for Christ, a salesman, and an associate pastor with Hope Chapel Mililani. In 1996, he joined the staff of New Hope O’ahu. Having worked with many different church ministries, including set up and break down, small groups, and teaching at midweek services, Pastor Glenn was ready to plant his own church by 1999.
It began with a group of 12 people in a friend’s living room in Ewa. Pastor Glenn shared his vision for the church and together, this group pioneered New Hope Kapolei.
Wednesday night midweek services began in February of 1999. Ministry teams developed through this time, such as Children’s Ministry, Worship team, Bookstore, Hospitality, Parking, and even Levites (set up and break down).
By August 1999, the church was ready to launch. They secured a meeting space at Makakilo Elementary School to hold one service at 9:00 a.m.
Since then, the church has grown. We relocated to Kapolei Middle School. We hold three gathering times, one on Saturday evening and two on Sunday morning.
The dream lives on as New Hope Kapolei seeks to be a voice of hope to our community.
